Before You Hit The Bottle!

First things first, it is really important that you understand exactly what you are getting into going with Green hair dye. Green shades are so versatile and varied they offer a solution for every skin tone, but they need a little more upkeep and maintenance than some of our other shades. Why? Well, these colours are typically formulated to penetrate the hair shaft deeply and they often have a cooler base, which can make the removal process more challenging compared to warmer colours.

Prep Like a Pro

Before we unleash the green hair dye magic, let’s get your hair prepped and ready:

1. Bleach, Please : Green shows up best on light hair, and semi-permanents work best on hair that has been bleached, so bleach your hair to a pale blonde or platinum using our  High Lift Bleaching Kit. Dark hair? You might need a couple of rounds.
2. Care and Condition : Show your hair some love in preparation for dyeing with a deep conditioning treatment a few days before dye day such as our  Bond Recovery Treatment.
3. Clarify, Baby : Use a clarifying shampoo to strip away any buildup prior to dyeing – we want your hair squeaky clean for that colour to stick. Use our  Colour Extend Shampoo for this and for all your post dye washes!

Let’s Get Crazy – Apply the Dye

Now for the fun part! Here’s how to slay the application:

1. Gear Up : Throw on some old clothes or a salon cape. We always recommend using disposable gloves, so your hands won't be stained with colour. Use a dark towel for your hair after dyeing to prevent any colour transfer, especially when you are using deeper shades!
2. Section It Out : Clip your hair into sections. Trust us, it makes everything easier. We have the perfect  Kit for you to get this just right!
3. Slather on the Dye : Using a brush or your (gloved) hands, coat each section from roots to tips. Make sure every strand is drenched in green goodness. We always say it but… it’s all about that saturation in colour to get the best results!
4. Comb It Through : Run a comb through to ensure even coverage.
5. Wait for It : Let the dye work its magic for 15-30 minutes. For an extra punch of colour, leave it on a bit longer.
6. Remove the Excess : We can all get a little messy with our colour when dyeing so we created a product for all of you, like us who tend to get your dye on more than just your skin! PSA: Hit the  Colour Remover Wipes. 

Rinse & Reveal

Time to rinse and reveal:

1. Cool Rinse : Rinse with cool water until it runs clear. Top Tip: Keep it cool to lock in that colour.
2. Anti Bleed Spray: Use after rinsing to help to seal your colour, prevent colour bleed after dyeing & can extend the life of your colour for up to ten extra washes!
3. Condition: Our  semi-permanent dyes have nourishing ingredients in them to leave your hair healthy, soft and with incredible shine, so a conditioner post dyeing isn’t always necessary. However, depending on your hair condition, if you feel it needs a little more TLC, use a colour-safe conditioner like our  Rainbow Care Conditioner which contains vitamin-rich sunflower seed oil and nourishing Brazil Nut Oil, to keep your hair hydrated while also smelling A-MAZING!

Keep the Crazy Alive – Maintain Your Green Hair Dye

Keep your green looking fresh with these tips:

1. Colour-Safe Products : Use shampoos and conditioners made for colour-treated hair. Sulphate-free is always the way to go and we have created plenty of care products that help to maintain colour and keep your hair healthy!
2. Wash Less : Wash your hair 2-3 times (some of us do it once!) a week to avoid fading.
3. Heat Protection : Minimise heat styling and always use a heat protectant spray as heat drains the colour from your hair.
4. Touch Up : Keep your green hair colour game fresh by popping some of your chosen green hair dye into your shampoo or conditioner each time you wash it!
