29th Aug 2024
We're here to help you mix up some magic with our semi-permanent dyes. Everyone always thinks Crazy Color and immediately goes to vivids: pink, orange, green… you name it, we’ve got it covered! But Crazy Color can also be used to create softer, tonal shades. You just need some advice on the perfect colour mixing to get the results you want. One of our favourite shades at the moment is Copper Blonde! It’s just so beautiful! So let us help you create your perfect copper blonde shade at home with some top tips and tricks!
Why Copper Blonde?
Copper blonde is where warmth meets vibrancy. It’s a shade that screams confidence and oozes personality. It’s versatile, striking, and just a little bit glam! And best of all it can be tweaked to suit any skin tone all year round!
What You'll Need
- Crazy Color Semi-Permanent Hair Dyes: We recommend starting with the following shades:
- Canary Yellow: For that sunny brightness.
- Rose Gold: To add a sweet, warm undertone.
- Peachy Coral: For a touch of soft peachy goodness.
- Orange: To intensify the vibrancy.
- Bordeaux: For a deeper, darker variation.
- Mixing Bowl and Brush: Essential for mixing up those colours.
- Gloves: To keep your hands dye-free.
- Neutral Mix: The Crazy Color top tip to pastelise and lighten your shade once you’ve mixed up the colours!
- Sulphate-Free Shampoo: For post-dye care to maintain the colour for as long as possible.
- Wide-Tooth Comb: For even application.
Step-By-Step Guide
1. Get that Perfect Clean Canvas
Start with clean, dry hair. If your hair is pre-lightened to a blonde or light base, you’re good to go. If not, you might need to lighten your hair to a level 9 or higher for the best results especially with these Copper Blonde shades: the lighter the better. Use our High Lift Bleaching Kit followed by our UV Shampoo which will get rid of any yellow tones and give you the cleanest results to begin colouring!
2. Mix It Up
Here are three mixes from our Salon PRO Chelsea Thompson, owner of Slunks Salon! Each with subtle tweaks to give you options for yellow copper to orange copper and red copper, so you can pick one that suits your mood and your skin tone the best:
Yellow Copper
- 15ml Canary Yellow
- 10ml Rose Gold
- 5ml Peachy Coral
This mix gives a stunning creamy, dreamy Copper Blonde.
Orange Copper
Start with the Yellow Copper mix and add:
- 3ml Orange
This creates a more vibrant version of the colour with strong orange tones and a gold undertone.
Red Copper
Start with the Yellow Copper mix and add:
- 3ml Bordeaux
This results in a rich, deep red-toned copper with a beautiful golden undertone.
3. Apply Like a Pro
Put on your gloves and section your hair. Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair and ensure an even application. Start applying the dye mixture from the roots to the tips, ensuring every strand is covered. Use your brush for precision and your fingers (in gloves!) for even distribution.
4. Watch the Clock
Patience is key! Let the dye sit for 15-30 minutes. The longer you wait, the more intense the colour. Check a small section every 5-10 minutes to see how the colour is developing. For the paler Yellow Copper you might find it is better left on for longer to let the colour really saturate into the hair.
5. Rinse and Reveal
Rinse your hair with cool water until the water runs clear. Skip the shampoo at this stage—just condition your hair to lock in that gorgeous colour. We recommend using our Anti Bleed Spray after rinsing which works as a leave-in conditioner and locks in your colour for up to 10 extra washes! We don’t call it our secret weapon for nothing.
Tips for Maintaining Your Copper Blonde
- Use sulphate-free shampoo: Sulphates can strip the colour from your hair so always make sure your products are created for coloured hair, such as our Colour Extend Shampoo.
- Cold rinses: Rinsing your hair with cold water helps seal the cuticle and keeps the colour vibrant for longer.
- Colour refresh: Semi-permanent dyes fade with time, that’s the beauty of them for all of us who like to change up their colour frequently! Keep a stash of your custom mix for touch-ups every 4-6 weeks or pop it in with your conditioner with each wash to create a colour mask which will keep your colour fresh!
- Healthy Hair: Keeping your hair in mint condition is key to lasting colour so use our Bond Recovery Treatment mask once a week to keep your hair top of its game!
